What you'll do

Record about four hours of scripts for a Mercor client, described as a leading AI research lab, which will use the audio to clone your voice for its internal "CX AI Agent". The scripts range across conversational, narrative and instructional styles, and some lines need several takes. A second session of similar length may follow; it is not guaranteed.

Swiss German is a hard language to collect data for: it is mainly spoken rather than written, varies strongly between cantons, and has far fewer speakers than Standard German. That scarcity is the likeliest reason this variant shares the top pay ceiling with the general American one. The ad does not say whether the scripts are written in Swiss German, in Standard German to be read aloud in Swiss German, or in Standard German with a Swiss accent, and it does not say which dialect it prefers. Ask at the audition stage.

Who fits

  • Native Swiss German speaker, currently living in Switzerland
  • A clear, expressive voice; acting, narration or broadcast experience is a plus
  • A near-professional home setup: quality microphone, pop filter, quiet room
  • Command of intonation, diction and emotional range while staying on script
  • About four hours for one session, possibly another later

Preferred: TTS, audiobook, IVR or AI voice dataset work, audio editing in Audacity, Adobe Audition or Reaper, and range across conversational, corporate, energetic and calm reads.

People who have voiced Swiss radio spots, public transport announcements or bank and insurance phone menus will recognise the register.

What it pays

$50–150 per hour, roughly $200 to $600 for the stated session, paid weekly via Stripe or Wise in US dollars. That is $50 more at the top than the German variant for Germany-based speakers ($50–100). Against Swiss living costs the floor is modest; the ad does not say what earns the upper end.

What you are licensing

Permission to clone your voice. The ad's single safeguard is a usage limit: the recordings serve only the client's internal CX AI agent and will not be sold, licensed or reused for any other product, dataset or purpose. There is no client name, no duration for the licence, no mention of withdrawing consent and no payment for continued use. Switzerland's data protection law treats voice as personal data, so it is fair to ask how yours will be stored; the ad says nothing on it.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Top ceiling in the family, up to $150/hour
  • A scarce language skill that is genuinely in demand for speech data
  • Newcomers with a good voice and setup can apply
  • Short, defined engagement
  • Written limit on reuse of the recordings

Less good:

  • Your voice may be cloned, and the ad mentions no pay for ongoing use
  • The ad says little about how the voice will be used: no client, no duration, no withdrawal right
  • Unclear whether the scripts are in dialect or Standard German, and which dialect is wanted
  • About $200–600 total unless a second session is offered
  • Paid in USD, so conversion to CHF costs something
  • Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
