What you'll do
You act as the quantitative expert a model is measured against. You read AI-generated answers to statistics, machine learning and experimental design problems and judge them the way a senior reviewer would: is the test appropriate, is the model validated properly, does the conclusion follow from the numbers. You also write the hard problems yourself, with datasets and reference solutions, so the model has something worth learning from.
The ad frames this inside a data science project, so some of the work is hands-on analysis in its own right: statistical studies, model building and tuning in Python and Pandas, and reproducible code and reports as deliverables. Peer review of other contributors' work and clear written feedback round it out.
Who fits
- At least one year at a top tech, finance or research company
- Strong Python, including Pandas and scikit-learn
- Applied statistics, experimental design and practical machine learning experience
- Data modeling across structured and unstructured data
- Clear technical writing
- An advanced academic background or equivalent hands-on work in data science or applied mathematics
These are listed as preferred, and no prior AI training experience is required. The "top company" line is the filter most likely to decide who gets through.
What it pays
micro1 publishes $245–280/hour, a narrow and high band. The ad does not say whether that is hourly or a per-task equivalent, nor how many hours a week are available. It matches the band on micro1's Senior Software Engineer listing, which suggests a shared premium tier for experienced specialists.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Among the highest published rates on micro1's board
- A tight band, so less guesswork about where you will land
- 100 openings, flagged high demand
- No country restriction stated
Less good:
- The top-company requirement shuts out strong analysts from smaller employers
- Weekly hours, project length and pay structure are not published
- Spotting subtle statistical errors at volume is demanding work
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
