What you'll do
An AI model that answers mental health questions for Indonesian users has to get two things right at once: the psychology and the register. You check both. The ad has you analysing psychological case studies and documentation, evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy, ethics and best practice, and writing scenarios and materials in Indonesian and English for the training data.
Register matters more in Indonesian than it might first appear. The formal Bahasa Indonesia of a textbook and the everyday, often Jakarta-inflected speech of someone describing their own distress are quite different, and many users also think in a regional language such as Javanese or Sundanese. Part of the job, as the ad puts it, is keeping an assessment faithful across languages and cultural contexts, so a scale item or a follow-up question keeps its meaning rather than just its words.
You also document your evaluation process so it can be reproduced, and work with an interdisciplinary team on the wider project. The customer is not named.
Who fits
The list is labelled "preferred qualifications", but the title makes the doctorate the effective requirement.
- A PhD in Psychology, with experience in both clinical and academic settings
- Native or near-native Indonesian and English, including psychological terminology in both
- Strong analytical and critical thinking, and a record of ethical decision-making
- Experience developing or evaluating case studies and psychological assessments
- Clear writing and speaking, especially when carrying nuanced concepts between Indonesian and English
- Comfort with remote collaboration and documentation tools
No AI experience is required. One practical note: in Indonesia the usual route into practice is a professional master's in psychology, so many working psychologists will not hold a PhD. This role leans towards academics and researchers who also have clinical time behind them.
How it compares
Indonesian is one of the 16 languages on micro1's broader Bilingual Mental Health Expert listing, at the same $100–200/hour, which takes either a psychology PhD or a psychiatry MD. This listing is the psychologist-only version with its own 70 openings; the ad does not say whether the two share a pipeline, so if you applied to the broader role, ask before applying twice. Against micro1's Indonesian Bilingual Expert at $60–65/hour, the doctorate adds a lot to the ceiling.
What it pays
$100–200/hour. The ad gives no basis for where in that band you land, and says nothing about pay structure, weekly hours or project length.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Flagged high demand, with 70 openings
- A band well above general Indonesian language work
- Uses clinical and cultural judgement rather than rote labelling
- Remote, with no country restriction on the ad
Less good:
- The PhD bar excludes many practising Indonesian psychologists
- A 2x spread with no stated basis for placement
- No hours, duration, pay structure or start date published
- Reviewing clinical scenarios can be emotionally demanding
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
About this listing
