What you'll do

This is driving footage collection, and the subject is the car rather than you. You fix a 360° action camera to the outside of your vehicle so that, once reframed, the video looks like it was shot from just behind and above the car, following it down the road. Each recording covers ordinary local driving: turns, stops, intersections, pulling into car parks, parking, and moving from one kind of road or neighbourhood to another.

The work is organised as assignments. micro1 keeps a predefined list; if a route you were already planning to drive matches one and meets its recording requirements, you claim it and record it on that trip. You then reframe the 360° file into the trailing third-person view, check it yourself, export it to the assignment's spec and submit it.

The ad adds that people selected may also take optional recording assignments that have nothing to do with driving, depending on interest and availability. It does not describe what those are.

What you need

  • A 360° action camera you already own or can use: the ad names Insta360 and GoPro MAX, or a comparable device
  • Software that can reframe 360° footage and export it as a trailing third-person view (Insta360 Studio, GoPro Player and similar desktop or mobile apps do this)
  • A secure, vehicle-rated exterior camera mount is strongly preferred. If you lack one, the ad says limited equipment support may be available to qualified applicants
  • A car, a regular driving routine and residence in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand

The ad's "ideal applicant" already films automotive, travel, action-sports or driving content and understands mounting, stabilisation, reframing and export. That describes people who run a dashcam-style or road-trip channel more than people who have never rigged a camera outside a moving car.

What it pays

The listing card shows $15–20/hour. The description is more specific: $20 USD per hour "per approved videos". Read together, the payable unit looks like approved footage rather than time spent driving, editing and uploading, and the card's lower bound suggests not every assignment pays the top rate. The ad does not explain the range, publish an approval rate or say how often you are paid.

Fitting assignments into trips you already make is what keeps this worthwhile: fuel, mounting time and reframing are on you, and only accepted video counts.

How it differs from micro1's other 360° listings

micro1's 360° Video Recorder and Vlogger listings pay a flat $20/hour and ask you to film yourself on foot and in daily life from a backpack rig, with driving as one activity among several and no country restriction. This one is driving only, films the vehicle from outside, quotes a $15–20 band, requires reframing software and an export workflow, and is limited to six English-speaking countries.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 100 openings, posted on 1 October 2026
  • Assignments slot into commutes and errands you already drive
  • No AI or annotation background needed
  • Some equipment support may be offered if you do not own a vehicle mount

Less good:

  • You need a 360° camera already, which is a real outlay if you do not have one
  • Pay is tied to approved video; rejected or unusable footage earns nothing
  • Exterior mounts on a moving car carry real risk to the camera, other road users and your insurance position; check local rules on external fixtures before you start
  • The pay band, approval criteria and the optional non-driving work are not explained
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
