What you'll do

The client's target is specific: an LLM that can create, understand and modify actual Office Open XML files, meaning complex .xlsx, .docx and .pptx documents rather than descriptions of them. Your job is to push it there.

You design challenging business scenarios modelled on your own work, then run structured, multi-turn conversations with the model. For each scenario the model produces two candidate files; you open both, judge them against professional standards and pick the preferred one, recording side-by-side preference data on quality, accuracy and business relevance. You also create and review Office documents yourself where the task needs a reference.

Preference judgments are only useful if the reasons are sharp, so expect to explain things like broken formulas hidden under correct-looking totals, a deck whose charts do not match its tables, or a Word document whose styles fall apart when edited.

Who fits

All listed as preferred:

  • 3+ years in Fortune 500 environments using Excel, PowerPoint and Word on high-impact work
  • Complex models, reports, analyses and presentations in finance, healthcare, tech, consulting or retail
  • Roles such as private equity associate, investment banking analyst, junior consultant, FP&A analyst, HR or marketing strategist, with hands-on deal or project work
  • The ability to design use cases across strategy, operations, sales, marketing, finance or HR
  • A sharp eye for nuanced differences in document quality
  • Experience with LLMs or long-form prompting is a strong plus

What it pays

$20–60/hour, micro1's published band. The 3x spread is wide and the ad does not say what places you in it. No compensation structure, weekly hours or project length is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 100 openings
  • A clearly defined goal (file-level Office output), which makes the evaluation criteria concrete
  • Named entry roles (analyst, associate, junior consultant) make it realistic for early-career finance and consulting people
  • No AI background required

Less good:

  • A $20 floor for work that asks for Fortune 500 experience
  • No published basis for placement in the band
  • The sibling Business Document Expert listing covers similar ground on a narrower $35–50 band, which is the safer floor
  • No hiring steps, hours or duration published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
