What you'll do
This is the evaluation side of legal AI. You work through simulated litigation tasks (issue spotting, legal analysis, building an argument), then review how an AI answers the same kind of scenario and give feedback that sharpens its reasoning on case law and procedure.
The longer-lasting contribution is the grading framework: objective evaluation criteria that let the team score the model's legal work consistently. You also work with product and research teams on the data, guidelines and best practices behind the tools. The role is part-time by design.
How it differs from the other Litigation Attorney listing
micro1 has two Litigation Attorney ads open on the same $80–150/hour band. The Litigation Attorney listing is about producing case work (strategy, research, pleadings and briefs) on a complex-disputes project, with per-task pay, a weekly minimum and a 24–48 hour start. This one is centred on simulated tasks, reviewing model output and writing grading criteria, is explicitly part-time, has hard requirements rather than preferences, and publishes no per-task or start-time terms.
Who qualifies
Required:
- A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school (J.D. only; LL.M.-only and foreign-equivalent degrees do not qualify)
- Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Active practice in litigation, corporate, real estate, bankruptcy or compliance, with a strong preference for seasoned litigators
- Meticulous written and verbal communication
- The ability to turn legal expertise into feedback an AI team can act on
- Experience on cross-disciplinary teams in fast-moving settings
Preferred:
- A federal or state judicial clerkship
- Teaching or lecturing at a law school
- Law review or law journal editorial experience
- Prior exposure to AI, legal tech or training projects
The "actively practising" line matters: retired or non-practising attorneys are outside the stated profile even with a valid license.
What it pays
$80–150/hour, micro1's published band. Unlike its sibling, this ad publishes no compensation mechanism, weekly hours or project length, so ask in screening whether pay is hourly or per task.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Open to non-litigators in corporate, real estate, bankruptcy and compliance practice
- Part-time by design, so it can sit alongside active practice
- 100 openings, flagged as high demand
- Clerkship, teaching and law review experience count in your favour
Less good:
- Strict degree rule: foreign-trained lawyers with only an LL.M. are excluded
- You must be actively practising
- No compensation structure, hours or duration published
- Check your firm's policies on outside work before applying
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
