What you'll do
The model drafts litigation writing; you are the partner who marks it up. You read AI-generated briefs, arguments and memos and check them for factual and legal accuracy, analytical rigour and professional standards, then write detailed feedback on the errors, gaps in logic and missed points. Where a draft is not good enough, you draft or edit the language yourself so the model has a stronger example to learn from.
The distinctive piece is edge-case judgement. The ad asks for input on ambiguous and complex questions specifically to inform how the model calibrates on nuanced legal issues, which in practice means deciding how confident an answer should be, not only whether it is right. Work is asynchronous with a cross-functional team.
Who fits
- A JD from an ABA-accredited law school and an active licence in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction
- 3–15 years post-JD, with trial, appellate and litigation specialists strongly preferred
- Federal or state clerkship experience, trial or appellate, is highly valued
- Proven legal writing; law journal editing or publication is a plus
- Substantial trial experience, federal court admissions or appellate practice strengthen the application
- Teaching in legal education (faculty, adjunct, lecturer, fellow) is desirable
No prior AI experience is needed, according to the ad.
What it pays
$100–180/hour, micro1's published band. micro1 had an earlier posting under the same card title at $80–140/hour, now closed. The scope and qualifications read the same; the difference is the pay, which is $20 higher at the floor and $40 higher at the top on this one. If you applied to the earlier posting, it is worth asking micro1 which band your application falls under. No hours or project length are published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Strong hourly band for remote review and drafting work
- Rewards clerkship, appellate and teaching backgrounds that other legal AI roles often ignore
- 50 openings with a high-demand badge
- No AI background required
Less good:
- Calibration work on ambiguous cases is harder to do quickly than straightforward error-spotting
- No hours, project duration or screening process published
- Two live postings with the same scope and different pay make it unclear which band a given applicant gets
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
