Legal Researcher
What you'll do
This is the research-methods version of the legal role. You review AI research outputs and write gold-standard ones, following a structured path: frame the issue, choose the jurisdiction, retrieve authority, synthesise, state caveats and uncertainty.
Citation hygiene is the core skill: verifying quotations, pinpoint cites and whether the authority supports the proposition. You also flag misleading certainty and jurisdictional errors, working across US state and federal, EU member states and common-law versus civil-law settings. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are first in line when a relevant project opens, and the role gives access to future projects through the expert network.
Who fits
- JD/LLB or equivalent, or an advanced paralegal or research background with substantial primary-law research
- 5+ years of legal research (firm, in-house, government, academia or legal publishing)
- Experience interpreting statutes, regulations and case law, including holdings versus dicta
- Ability to verify quotations and flag unsupported assertions
- Minimum C1 English with clear legal writing
Nice to have
- Active bar membership
- Westlaw, Lexis or equivalents and Bluebook or local citation formats
- Editorial QA, knowledge management or legal publishing
What it pays
The ad states up to $110 an hour, a ceiling, the lowest of the four legal listings in this batch (Legal Expert $115; QAL and Rubric Design $120). The listing does not publish payment terms; the process and payout details are on the company page.
