What you'll do
You judge how well an AI understands getting a part off a machine. The project centres on CAM, CNC and Fusion 360 workflows: you review AI-generated content and recommendations about manufacturing processes, give expert feedback on where they are wrong or inefficient, and develop and validate detailed rubrics that score manufacturing-process answers on accuracy and efficiency.
The rubric work is the durable part. A good rubric for, say, a toolpath strategy question has to separate "would cut the part" from "would cut it well": sensible stepovers, appropriate tool choice, workholding that holds, feeds and speeds in a defensible range. That is shop-floor knowledge that is hard to find written down, which is why the project is recruiting practitioners. The ad frames it as enhancing human productivity rather than replacing it.
Who fits
- Proven CAM, CNC machining and digital manufacturing experience
- Advanced Autodesk Fusion 360, plus related manufacturing software
- Clear written and spoken communication, with an eye for detail
- Experience developing or using process-evaluation rubrics is highly valued
No degree, years of experience or location requirement is stated, and no AI experience is needed.
What it pays
$60–100/hour on the card, but compensation is output-based: you are paid per task that meets project specifications, and you must submit a minimum number of tasks each week (the ad does not say how many). Treat the band as a target that depends on how quickly you work through tasks.
Process
Screening questions, an AI interview of about 30 minutes, then a hiring manager review. micro1 says it usually fills roles within 48 hours and expects first tasks within 24–48 hours of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- One hundred openings, a large intake for a specialist engineering role
- Machinists and CAM programmers qualify on skill, without engineering degrees
- Rubric design makes use of hard-won shop knowledge
Less good:
- Per-task pay with an unquantified weekly minimum
- Fusion 360 specifically: Mastercam, Esprit or hyperMILL users may struggle to qualify
- No project duration published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits
