What you'll do

If you have spent Thursday afternoons chasing staff sections for inputs to a Weekly Activity Report, this is that skill applied to AI. You review and grade AI-generated military and DoD reporting for accuracy, clarity, correct terminology and fidelity to how reports are really built, and you write detailed feedback on where the model gets the synthesis wrong.

The other half is authoring: developing realistic reporting examples and scenarios, grounded in how information actually flows from multiple teams up to an executive update. The model needs to learn what a commander or senior civilian actually wants on the page, and what gets cut.

Who fits

  • 3+ years in the US Department of Defense as a uniformed service member, a DoD civilian, or both
  • Personal experience preparing recurring reports or executive updates for senior military or DoD leadership
  • Familiarity with WARs, project and program status reports, performance and accomplishment reports, AARs or budget execution reports
  • A background in operations, plans, headquarters or command staff, program management, executive support or resource management
  • Strong writing and the ability to condense many inputs into a clear report
  • Operations Officer or NCO, Plans Officer, Action Officer, Staff Officer or XO experience is a plus

No clearance is mentioned and no AI experience is needed.

What it pays

$40–80/hour, micro1's published band, the same as its Military Writing Specialist listing. The ad does not say what places you within it, the hours or the pay mechanism.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Staff-work experience, often undervalued in civilian hiring, is the core qualification
  • No clearance requirement stated
  • Remote with no stated country restriction, though the DoD background effectively means US veterans and civilians

Less good:

  • A modest floor for senior staff officers
  • Ten openings only
  • No hours, duration or pay mechanics published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits
  • Keep anything you contribute unclassified; the ad does not describe safeguards

About this listing

Read on micro1's jobs portal on 24 September 2026, posted four days earlier with a "High demand" badge. The band, experience bar and report types are micro1's text; the commentary is ours. micro1's Military Writing Specialist listing covers similar ground with more emphasis on writing golden responses and grading rubrics, and restricts applicants to the US.
