What you'll do
This is a niche role for people who actually hold a notary commission. You write realistic notarization situations, ranging from routine acknowledgments and jurats to remote online notarization, and then check how an AI model handles them. For each scenario you document the statutory reasoning behind the correct procedural decision.
The grading focus is procedural correctness under state notary law. The ad specifically asks you to flag guidance that reads correct but would violate the law of the relevant state, which is exactly the sort of confident-but-wrong answer a general model gives about identification rules or who may be notarized.
Who fits
- An active notary public commission in at least one US state
- At least two years of active notarial practice
- Depth in acknowledgments, jurats, oaths and identification requirements
- Clear written English for documenting procedural reasoning
- Able to commit at least 10 hours a week
Preferred: remote online notarization authorization, loan signing agent experience, and commissions or practice in more than one state. The application form has an optional field for your notary credential. No law degree is asked for.
What it pays
The board headlines $48/hr. The ad's contract section states a range of $35 to $60/hr, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. That makes this one of the lower bands among AfterQuery's law roles, which tracks with the lower credential bar (no JD or bar admission needed).
Worth knowing
Good:
- A way to use notary experience that rarely appears in AI work
- Fully remote and async, with no fixed hours
- No screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, per the ad
- Ongoing project work rather than single task batches
Less good:
- A minimum of 10 hours a week, with no maximum
- Independent contractor status: no benefits, your own tax
- Notary rules differ by state, so scenarios may reach beyond the state you are commissioned in; the ad does not say how that is handled
- Work depends on project matches after onboarding, which the ad says usually happen within a week
How hiring works
Application takes about five minutes (resume plus structured questions), followed by a resume review against a published rubric, a possible written assessment, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access) and a project match.
