What you'll do
This is benchmark building for government writing. Working from prompts and supplied artifacts, you write realistic military and federal status reports, summaries and executive updates to the standard a model should reach: the "golden responses". Then you write the grading rubrics that decide whether an AI's version of the same report passes, and apply them to AI-generated reports with written and spoken feedback.
The ad also asks for the nuance a template misses. You explain how common documents (WARs, SITREPs, AARs, executive summaries) differ by branch, command and author, and occasionally produce supporting pieces such as decision briefs, memoranda and action-officer updates. Multiple SMEs contribute so the dataset covers a range of styles and branch-specific terminology, which means your service background shapes the benchmark directly.
Who fits
- A former US Department of War (Department of Defense) professional with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience producing templated reports such as WARs, SITREPs, After-Action Reviews or similar
- Experience across two or more service branches is a plus; varied roles are valued
- Strong written and spoken communication on operational or technical subjects
- The ability to draft, grade and review office documents, slides, memos and spreadsheets for military or federal use
- Based in the US, with broad knowledge of federal documentation standards
- Comfort collaborating remotely
No AI experience needed; no clearance mentioned.
What it pays
$40–80/hour, micro1's published band, identical to the Military Operations & Reporting SME listing. Hours and pay mechanics are not published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Twenty openings, double its sibling's
- Rubric and golden-response writing is the more influential end of AI training work
- Joint and multi-branch careers are an advantage rather than a complication
Less good:
- US-based applicants only
- Writing polished golden responses takes time; if pay turns out to be per task, effective rates may be lower
- No duration, hours or pay structure stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits
- Use only unclassified, releasable material; the ad does not describe handling rules
About this listing
Read on micro1's jobs portal on 24 September 2026, posted four days earlier with a "High demand" badge. The US-only requirement, band and scope are micro1's text; the commentary is ours. Its sibling, Military Operations & Reporting SME, leans toward evaluating AI reports and building scenarios and does not state a country restriction. See micro1.
