SolidWorks Specialist
micro1: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
You do real mechanical design work in SolidWorks and talk through it. Typical tasks: create and edit 3D models of parts and assemblies, work through sketches, constraints and feature trees, change a design to meet new technical requirements, and review a model for dimensions, tolerances and manufacturing accuracy. You also write the instructions and detailed prompts for mechanical design tasks that other people, or a model, would then attempt.
Each task has to be recorded and explained step by step, because the narration is what teaches the model why a feature order or a tolerance was chosen. The work is remote, on a contractor basis, with 25 openings and a high-demand flag.
What you need
- Strong professional experience with SolidWorks
- Hands-on 3D parametric modelling and assemblies
- A good grasp of mechanical design, GD&T and manufacturing processes
- SolidWorks access and the ability to record your screen while you work
- English at B2 or above
- The ability to explain technical workflows clearly
Nice to have
- Experience with FreeCAD, Fusion 360 or Autodesk Inventor
- A master's degree or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Human data experience such as annotation, RLHF or model evaluation
- Background in CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding or reverse engineering
What it pays
micro1 lists $65–123/hour, a wide band; the top is nearly double the floor. The ad does not say what places you within it, though the long skills list (casting, forging, scan-to-CAD, Python, iLogic, VBA) hints that broader manufacturing and scripting experience may matter. That is our reading, not something the ad states. Hours, duration and payment schedule are not published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A $65–123 band is strong for remote CAD work
- Your own SolidWorks workflow is the product; no AI background needed
- Scripting and automation skills (iLogic, VBA, Python) appear in the skills list
Less good:
- You need a SolidWorks licence of your own, and the ad does not say whether micro1 supplies one
- Screen recording and narrating slows work compared with simply designing
- A previous micro1 SolidWorks listing has expired; this is a new posting with different pay
- No customer, hours or duration published; contractor terms, no benefits
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal on 3 November 2026 and read there the same day, flagged high demand. Location is given only as "Remote", so we have left eligibility open. See micro1.
How to get hired
- Screening: micro1 screens through an AI interview run by Zara, followed by a hiring manager review; the listing does not publish anything role-specific beyond that. Our micro1 interview guide covers what Zara asks.
- Profile first: list your SolidWorks years, the part types you modelled (sheet metal, castings, assemblies) and any certification such as CSWP.
- Preparation: record a short screen capture of a small part with a clear feature tree while narrating why you ordered the features that way; it mirrors the task format.
- Evidence: mention one design you took from a requirement to a toleranced drawing, with the GD&T callouts you chose.
