Veterans Service Representative
micro1: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
You act as the claims expert checking a model's work. AI-generated disability compensation claims land in front of you, and you judge whether the evidence was weighed correctly and the regulations followed. You also assess AI-generated medical documentation and decide how it changes an existing claim.
The output is a finished benefit determination with the rationale spelled out, plus quality assurance reviews that name inconsistencies or errors against VA standards. You can also be asked to simulate a higher-level review, covering appeals and supplemental claims. Everything is written up so a model can learn from it. The work is remote, on a contractor basis, with 10 openings.
What you need
The ad lists these as preferred qualifications rather than hard filters:
- Experience as a Veterans Service Representative or an equivalent claims role, including benefit determination and evidence gathering
- Skill evaluating disability compensation and rating claims in a regulated environment
- Familiarity with GS-0996 (Veterans Claims Examining), GS-0105 (Social Insurance Administration) or GS-0512 (Internal Revenue Agent) functions
- Experience with VBMS or a similar claims management platform
- Quality assurance background in claims work at a federal, state or related agency
- The ability to synthesise complicated evidence into a clear decision
What it pays
micro1 lists $60–85/hour. The ad does not say what sets your rate within that range, the weekly hours or the project length. Payment method and schedule are not published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A $60–85 band is high for work built around skills you already hold
- Your claims judgment is the product, so the work is closer to your old job than to generic annotation
- Remote, with no location restriction stated
Less good:
- It reads as a narrow pool: VA claims experience is the real filter, and a general benefits background may not qualify
- Only 10 openings
- The ad does not say whether you work in VBMS itself or in a training environment that mimics it
- No customer, hours or duration published; contractor terms, no benefits
About this listing
micro1 posted this same ad eight times on its portal; we publish it once. Read there on 3 November 2026, marked new. The customer is not named and the location line says only "Remote", so we have left eligibility open. See micro1.
How to get hired
- Screening: micro1 screens through an AI interview run by Zara, followed by a hiring manager review; the listing does not publish anything role-specific beyond that. Our micro1 interview guide covers what Zara asks.
- Profile first: put your claims title, the years you rated or examined disability claims and any VBMS use at the top, since those decide fit.
- Preparation: pick a past claim type (say, a supplemental claim) and practise writing the determination and rationale in plain steps, because the rationale is what gets used.
- Evidence: name the agency and the GS series you worked under; the ad refers to GS-0996, GS-0105 and GS-0512 specifically.
