What you'll do
This is an operations leadership role, not a task-writing one. You own the system that turns a research lab's requirements into steady, high-quality software-engineering data. The ad lists the kinds of programs involved: supervised coding demonstrations, repository-level tasks, agentic trajectories, reinforcement-learning environments, benchmarks, code review and rubric-based evaluations.
Day to day that means owning delivery across scope, timelines, quality, throughput, contributor performance and cost; fixing bottlenecks through better instructions, sequencing, incentives and review systems; and building team-lead and reviewer structures for programs of 100 to 1,000+ contributors. You also work with talent teams to source and ramp engineers, act as the main customer contact for AI labs, push back on requirements that will not produce the intended signal, and use Python, SQL or similar tools to automate quality sampling and reporting. Successful workflows become reusable playbooks, and you mentor other program leads.
Who fits
- Proven experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder programs in software engineering, technical program management, consulting, finance, startups, operations or similar
- Strong analytical skills: finding bottlenecks, defining meaningful metrics, improving production performance
- Experience managing distributed teams, contributor networks, marketplaces or large technical operations
- Customer-facing communication: setting expectations, reporting risk, building long client relationships
- The ability to read and review code and test suites in languages such as Python, TypeScript, Java or Go
What it pays
The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing for what its listings tend to disclose.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A broad remit with real ownership, and a background-flexible entry (consulting, finance and startups are all named)
- Exposure to how frontier labs specify and quality-control training data
- Scale: programs described as running to 1,000+ contributors
Less good:
- No pay figure, and the ad does not state hours, contract length or engagement type, so ask before assuming it matches the usual short Turing contract
- The technical bar is real: you are expected to inspect code and challenge rubrics yourself
- Customer-facing pressure, since you carry progress, risk and recovery plans to the AI labs
- The ad does not describe the evaluation process; Turing's help centre mentions skill tests and, for some roles, a live interview (see Turing)
About this listing
Posted by Turing on its jobs board and read on 18 October 2026. The responsibilities and requirements are Turing's own text; the ad calls the role Senior Program Lead in its body while titling it Strategic Project Lead. See Turing.
