What you'll do

Follow a recording guide, read one short script, upload the file. The ad says it takes about 15 minutes or less, and nothing else is asked of you beyond that one submission.

The accent here is English shaped by Vietnamese. Vietnamese is a tonal language with mostly single-syllable words and few final consonant clusters, and those habits often carry into English speech, which is why a recognition system trained mostly on other accents can stumble on it. The ad does not describe how AfterQuery will use the audio; that background is ours.

Who qualifies

• Your own natural Vietnamese-influenced English. Submissions with faked or imitated accents are unpaid and removed.
• A smartphone or computer with a working microphone.
• Ability to follow written English instructions without help.
• Nice to have: earlier voice recording, narration or audio work.

The ad welcomes all genders and sets no country requirement.

What it pays

$50 flat for the one recording, according to the ad text. The board shows $30/hr as its headline number, which does not match a flat fee for a quarter-hour task, so treat the $50 as the figure to plan around.

Worth knowing

Good:

• A one-off task with a clearly stated fee
• No special equipment beyond a microphone
• Quick to finish

Less good:

• Only 3 to 5 speakers are accepted for the Vietnamese accent
• A recording judged to be put on is not paid
