Public Sector Expert

What you'll do

You bring the paperwork of public agencies to AI models and see whether they cope. You write realistic problems from your own field, work through budget, grant and program reporting data, and review AI output for mistakes a professional would catch.

A typical test might be whether a model handles a grant budget the way a grants office would, or whether its summary of a program report misreads what was actually spent. AfterQuery's ad stays general about the tasks, so treat those as our examples of the kind of error you would be looking for.

Who qualifies

  • At least 5 years as a budget analyst, grants manager, program evaluator or similar role in government or a public agency
  • A bachelor's degree or higher
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining spreadsheets in your own job
  • Strong written English

The ad rules out students and people early in their career. Preferred, not required: experience at more than one level of government, federal grant management, and a master's in public administration or public policy.

What it pays

The board lists $70 an hour. No payment schedule or weekly minimum appears on this listing; see AfterQuery for how the platform pays in general.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Paid hourly at a figure stated up front
  • Aimed at government finance and program staff, who see fewer AI training roles than lawyers or engineers
  • Flexible, part-time hours that can sit beside another job

Less good:

  • Project work, with no promised hours
  • The ad does not say which country's government experience counts, so check this if you worked outside the US
  • If you are a current government employee, check your agency's outside-work rules before you apply

About this listing

Read on the AfterQuery Experts board; the ad was posted on 4 November 2026. It sets no residence requirement, so we list no country. See AfterQuery.

How to get hired

  • Expect AfterQuery's one unpaid assessment for the pool, which cannot be retaken. Our AfterQuery assessment guide explains how it runs.
  • Lead your CV with the agency level and the money involved: which programs, what size of budget or grant portfolio, and your part in the reporting.
  • If you have federal grant experience, say so in the first lines, because the ad names it as a preference.
  • To prepare, turn one past budget variance or grant report into a short problem with a worked answer, and list the two errors a newcomer would make on it.
