What you'll do
This listing is specifically about Dutch as it is spoken in Belgium, and Mercor keeps it separate from a Netherlands Dutch role. The distinction matters for safety work: Belgian Dutch differs from Netherlands Dutch in vocabulary, idiom and informal register, and a model's safeguards tuned on one can miss how a request is naturally phrased in the other.
The tasks:
- Writing expert-level prompts in Belgian Dutch across a range of sensitive subject areas
- Classifying prompts and conversations against structured guidelines
- Flagging adversarial phrasings and escalation patterns, with your reasoning written up
You will be writing, deliberately, the kinds of requests a model should decline or handle with care, and spotting the conversations that build towards something step by step. The ad does not list the sensitive topics. No AI or machine-learning experience is needed; Mercor trains you.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Dutch as spoken in Belgium, plus business-level written English
- Currently based in Belgium. This is a hard location requirement on this listing, not a preference
- A bachelor's degree, completed or in progress
- Strong written reasoning and attention to detail
- Sound judgment around sensitive and dual-use information
Nice to have: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, or a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing.
If you are a Flemish speaker living outside Belgium, this one is closed to you; the ad points to a separate role for Netherlands Dutch, which is a different variety rather than a fallback.
What it pays
$48–52 per hour, Mercor's published figure, in line with the Danish, Finnish, German, French, Japanese and Korean generalist versions. The Belgian Dutch STEM (PhD) role pays $61–65 for chemists and biologists with a doctorate or one in progress.
Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered. As a Belgium-based independent contractor, check how this income fits your status (for example as a secondary self-employed activity) before you start; the ad does not cover it.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A narrowly defined pool (Belgian residents with Belgian Dutch) means less competition than a Dutch-language role open to everyone
- Entry-level bar: a degree in progress counts
- Remote and flexible, immediate start
- 5 hires this month when we checked
Less good:
- Must be living in Belgium
- Sensitive material is the core of the work, and the topics are unnamed
- No weekly hours or project length; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Contractor status, no benefits
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
