What you'll do

No specialist degree, no AI background, and $58–62 an hour: the Norwegian generalist role pays more than any other generalist version in this series, and more than several of the PhD-level STEM versions in other languages. The work is the same across languages, so the premium is about Norwegian itself: a small language market where fluent reviewers are harder to find.

What the ad describes:

  • Writing expert-level prompts in Norwegian across a range of sensitive subject areas
  • Classifying prompts and conversations using structured guidelines
  • Flagging adversarial phrasings and escalation patterns, and documenting why

In plain terms, you help find the places where an AI model's safeguards weaken when a request is phrased in natural Norwegian rather than English, including dialect-flavoured or indirect phrasing that a system trained mostly on English data could miss. That means writing, on purpose, requests a model ought to refuse or handle carefully. The ad does not say which sensitive topics are in scope.

It also does not say whether Bokmål, Nynorsk or both are wanted. Worth asking if you write mainly in Nynorsk.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Norwegian and business-level written English
  • A bachelor's degree, finished or in progress
  • Strong written reasoning and careful attention to detail
  • Sound judgment with sensitive and dual-use information

Helpful but optional: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, and a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing.

Norway is the preferred location (not the wider region, as with most sister listings), but this is explicitly a preference and applicants elsewhere are welcome.

What it pays

$58–62 per hour, Mercor's published figure. Most other generalist versions (Danish, Finnish, German, French, Japanese, Korean, Belgian Dutch) pay $48–52. The Norwegian STEM (PhD) version pays $77–81 if you hold or are working towards a doctorate in chemistry or biology.

Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Top generalist rate in the series, with an entry-level bar
  • Students with a degree in progress qualify
  • Remote and self-scheduled, immediate start, no AI experience needed
  • 6 hires this month when we checked

Less good:

  • Sensitive material by design, with the topics unnamed
  • Written standard (Bokmål or Nynorsk) not specified
  • No weekly hours or project length; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • Independent contractor: no benefits, and you handle your own tax
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
