What you'll do
The finance twin of the Insurance Specialist listing, on the same Cincinnatus template and with the same two gates: long experience at a top-tier firm, and evaluation work you have already done on AI models.
For a leading AI lab's GenAI team, you would:
- Guide research and engineering teams on gaps in financial reasoning, analysis and decision-making
- Design challenging finance tasks and write accurate, well-reasoned solutions grounded in real practice
- Evaluate model outputs against structured rubrics and write feedback on correctness, judgment and reasoning
- Develop and refine finance-specific evaluation guidelines and scoring rubrics
- Keep training data consistent with other subject-matter experts
The finance scope is broad: the ad's examples are investment banking, asset management, corporate finance and financial advisory.
Who fits
- 8+ years of dedicated finance experience at a recognised top-tier organisation; the examples given are Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, Fidelity, Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG, "or equivalent"
- Mandatory: prior hands-on experience evaluating LLM or AI outputs against rubrics or structured scoring criteria, described in your application
- Demonstrable progression, for example Analyst to Associate to VP or Director
- At least 35 hours a week on weekdays
- United States-based (a hard location requirement)
If you have the finance pedigree but no AI evaluation history yet, Mercor's remote contracts such as Investment Finance Expert (CL Funnel) or Finance Expert do not require it and pay more per hour.
What it pays
$65–90 per hour, $5–10 above the insurance twin. At 35 hours a week the floor works out to about $2,275 a week.
Employment terms
The ad is inconsistent: the body describes a W-2 position with Cincinnatus LLC as employer of record, while the Mercor footer describes independent contractor terms, weekly Stripe or Wise payments and no H-1B or STEM OPT support. Ask which applies before accepting.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Rubric design, not only rubric application
- Big Four and asset-management backgrounds explicitly count
- Steady, near-full-time hours
Less good:
- US only
- Prior LLM evaluation experience is mandatory
- For an 8-year bar, less per hour than several Mercor remote finance contracts
- W-2 versus contractor terms need confirming
About this listing
Posted by Mercor as a part-time position for US-based candidates, confirmed open on 24 September 2026. Pay, hours and requirements are the ad's own. See Mercor.
