What you'll do

Where Mercor's other insurance listings accept any carrier or line, this one is pitched squarely at the largest insurers. The scenarios are calibrated to the underwriting complexity, regulatory stakes and claims volume of Fortune 500 and large public carriers, and the rubrics you write are meant to capture how senior operators there actually think.

The work has three parts:

  • Scenarios: complex commercial underwriting, multi-stakeholder claims adjudication, and regulatory filing or compliance review cycles
  • Reference outputs: underwriting guidelines, claims strategies and executive-level risk narratives
  • Rubrics: criteria that separate real enterprise insurance judgment from textbook or licensing-exam recall

Coverage spans underwriting and risk assessment, claims management, actuarial pricing and reserving, reinsurance strategy, and regulatory and compliance affairs. Named tools and methods include Guidewire, Duck Creek, SAS and R for actuarial modeling, enterprise policy and claims administration systems, loss reserving, ERM frameworks and NAIC compliance standards.

Who fits

  • 5+ years in underwriting, claims, actuarial or risk management at a Fortune 500 carrier or reinsurer (the ad names State Farm, Allstate, Chubb, AIG and Berkshire Hathaway), or inside a Fortune 500 enterprise risk or insurance function
  • Direct ownership of large underwriting portfolios, claims operations or actuarial pricing models
  • Working knowledge of how reinsurance treaties, reserving and regulatory compliance operate at that scale
  • Prior rubric, training-curriculum or claims documentation authorship is a plus

No residence requirement is published.

What it pays

$50–60 per hour, paid weekly on Stripe or Wise.

That is the notable thing about this listing. The Insurance Actuarial Specialists and Insurance Underwriting Specialists roles pay a flat $80 for a 2-year bar, while this one asks for 5 years at a top carrier and pays $20–30 less. If you qualify for either of those, compare before applying here. The trade-off is that this listing does not state a 20-hour weekly minimum.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Enterprise-scale claims and compliance experience is used directly
  • No stated weekly minimum
  • Remote and self-scheduled

Less good:

  • Lowest rate among Mercor's current insurance listings, with the highest bar
  • Mercor showed only 2 hires on it this month
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
  • Contractor terms; projects can be extended, shortened or concluded early
