Skills
  • finnish language proficiency
  • transcription
  • linguistic annotation
  • attention to detail
  • guideline interpretation
  • transcription platforms

What you'll do

You transcribe Finnish audio accurately and then do the linguistic work around it: annotating, segmenting or labelling the data to the project's rules, and checking other contributors' transcripts for consistency. When the audio is unclear or a speaker's dialect makes a word ambiguous, you flag it rather than guess.

Dialect matters most in the Finnish version of this role. Spoken Finnish is far from written standard Finnish, with contractions, colloquial pronoun forms and strong regional variation, so the guideline decisions (how to spell what was actually said) matter as much as typing speed. The ad asks you to document those challenges and suggest guideline improvements.

Who fits

Listed as preferred:

  • Native-level Finnish, with a good grasp of regional dialects and colloquial speech
  • A track record in transcription, linguistics or other language projects
  • Precise, low-error work
  • Clear, professional written and spoken communication
  • The ability to follow complex linguistic guidelines
  • A responsive working style in a remote team
  • Familiarity with transcription platforms, annotation tools or language datasets, as a bonus

What it pays

$20–35/hour, micro1's published band. That is a little above micro1's Danish Transcription Expert ($24–30/hour) at the top end, with a lower floor. The ad does not explain placement within the range.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Finnish is a small market for AI language work, so native speakers face less competition than in larger languages
  • No AI experience needed
  • Dialect knowledge is explicitly valued, which rewards speakers from outside Helsinki too
  • Review and guideline work alongside plain transcription

Less good:

  • 10 openings only
  • Detailed transcription is slow, careful work; hourly pay only feels generous if the audio is clean
  • Weekly hours, project length and customer are not stated
  • Contractor terms, with no benefits
