What you'll do
Finnish is structurally unlike English: long compound words, fifteen grammatical cases and a colloquial spoken form (puhekieli) that differs a lot from written standard Finnish. All of that gives a request many surface forms, which is exactly why AI safeguards built mainly on English data need native Finnish speakers to test them.
The ad lists three tasks:
- Writing expert-level prompts in Finnish across a range of sensitive subject areas
- Classifying prompts and conversations using structured guidelines
- Flagging adversarial phrasings and escalation patterns, and writing up the reasoning behind each call
In practice you are writing the kinds of requests an AI model should refuse or treat carefully, in both formal and everyday Finnish, and marking where a conversation is being steered somewhere it should not go. The ad does not name the sensitive topics, so expect to work with difficult material.
Mercor provides training on the workflow; no AI or machine-learning background is needed.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Finnish and business-level written English
- A bachelor's degree, completed or in progress
- Strong written reasoning and attention to detail
- Sound judgment with sensitive and dual-use information
A plus: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, or a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing.
Finland or the wider Western Europe region is preferred; the ad states applicants elsewhere are welcome.
What it pays
$48–52 per hour, Mercor's published figure and the standard generalist rate across most European and East Asian versions of this role. Norwegian generalists get $58–62. If you have a PhD in chemistry or biology, or are working on one, the Finnish STEM version pays $61–65.
Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Entry-level requirements; a degree in progress is enough
- No AI background needed, and training is included
- Remote, self-scheduled, immediate start
- 6 hires this month when we checked
Less good:
- Sensitive material by design, and the ad does not say which topics
- No stated weekly hours or project length; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Contractor status with no benefits; handle your own tax
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded
