What you'll do

Of the language variants in this family, the Finnish one is the clearest about how long it lasts and how you get in. It is a one-month contractor assignment in which you read and summarise material, break it into logical blocks, verify claims through online research, and work with a language model on puzzles. You also create scenarios the model tends to get wrong and write the right answer with the reasoning behind it, so the model has something to learn from.

Examples in the ad include judging which location's sales grew most from a monthly distribution (which period, and should an unusual start be discounted?) and a delivery-order puzzle with fixed visiting rules. The ad does not say how much of the output is in Finnish.

Who fits

  • Fluent English and Finnish (mandatory)
  • Good research and analytical skills, creative and lateral thinking
  • Able to give constructive feedback and detailed annotations
  • Communicates well, works independently and remotely, with a desktop or laptop and a good connection
  • Can commit up to 40 hours a week, overlapping US hours

Preferred: a degree in engineering, literature, journalism, communications, arts, statistics or related (experience can substitute), professional writing or editing background, Excel and Google Suite, and data interpretation and basic arithmetic. No other specialised domain experience is needed.

What it pays

The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing for how its listings handle pay.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • The screening is spelled out: an automated analytical challenge, then a business writing assessment in English, then a language proficiency assessment
  • Contract length is stated (1 month) and it may be extended depending on performance and project needs
  • Flexible hours and remote work are listed
  • No specialised background needed

Less good:

  • One month is short, so this is a trial-sized engagement rather than steady income
  • Overlap with UTC-8 (America/Los_Angeles) is required, 2 to 5 hours a day, which falls late in the evening in Finland
  • Contractor assignment with no medical or paid leave
  • No rate published
