What you'll do

You are the person in the room who has actually run a shop floor. The customer builds simulated retail scenarios and operational workflows, and you check them for authenticity: would a store manager really handle a stock discrepancy, a returns dispute or a compliance check this way? You also write and refine content on retail operations, sales processes and customer service interactions, and test whether the problem-solving logic behind a model's answer holds up.

Some of the work is conversational. The ad mentions structured discussions to pin down terminology and operational nuance, so expect to explain the difference between, say, shrink and damage, or how a pharmacy counter differs from the main floor. The output is concrete recommendations for improving the AI's answers.

Who fits

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in retail trade, operations or a related subdomain
  • The ad names pharmacists, first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, general and operations managers, and private detectives and investigators working in retail
  • Able to explain complex operational processes clearly, in writing and out loud
  • Experience implementing or advising on retail best practice and compliance
  • Careful analysis of workflows, procedures and case studies
  • Comfort working in a distributed, remote team
  • Familiarity with retail technology platforms is a plus

No prior AI experience is needed.

What it pays

micro1 publishes $40–70/hour. That is well above typical hourly pay for store supervisors, though closer to market for pharmacists and senior operations managers. The ad does not say what places you in the band, and no pay structure, hours or project length are stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Rare AI training work aimed squarely at retail people rather than engineers or academics
  • No degree or AI experience asked for; five years of real retail work is the credential
  • An unusually broad set of backgrounds qualifies, including loss prevention investigators
  • Fully remote

Less good:

  • Only 15 openings, fewer than most current micro1 listings
  • The verbal discussion component means some scheduled calls, not purely asynchronous work
  • The customer and the project's end use are not named
  • No hours, duration or start date published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
