Project Lead: AI Training
Turing: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
You own the delivery of a large multimodal annotation project from start to finish. That means scoping the work, staffing it, watching throughput, accuracy and turnaround, and acting early when a number slips. You are also the main contact for the client, so the person asking "where are we?" reaches you, not a team lead.
Below you sit Team Leads, whom you mentor, and Quality Managers, with whom you share responsibility for the quality bar. The ad stresses speed: deadlines are often 24 hours, so most of the job is making quick calls from data and scaling the team up or down as the volume changes. It is a remote contractor engagement.
Who fits
- Seven or more years of experience, at least four of them leading teams
- A record of running complex, high-volume projects, with budgets and deadlines you were accountable for
- Clear client communication and stakeholder management
- Comfort making decisions from performance metrics rather than instinct
- Preferred, not required: experience in annotation, data labeling, AI training, RLHF, SFT or model evaluation
Residence is not restricted in the ad, but the working day is anchored to Pacific time (below), so check that it is workable where you live.
What it pays
No pay rate is published on this listing. Turing sets rates per project and, according to its help centre, most listings do not state one; see Turing for how payment works once you are engaged. Because this is a leadership role with a fixed 16-week term, ask about the rate early in the process.
Schedule and term
- Duration: 16 weeks
- Five working days a week, weekends included when needed, with two weekdays off
- Hours: 7am to 4pm Pacific time
The ad describes the engagement as project-based, built around a defined number of evaluation tasks in which several chatbots are compared and given a final assessment. That describes the project's underlying work; the lead's duties are the ones listed above.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Management scope: client, team leads, quality and budget in one role
- A defined 16-week term, so you know when it ends
- Fully remote, with no country restriction stated
- Direct exposure to how large annotation operations are run
Less good:
- No rate is published, so you cannot compare it with other offers before applying
- Weekend work and a fixed Pacific-time day are hard to fit around other jobs or far-off time zones
- 24-hour delivery pressure suits people who like fast, metrics-driven work
- Contractor terms: no benefits and your own taxes

How to get hired
- Turing's help centre describes a profile, skill assessments and, for some roles, a live interview; this ad lists no screening steps beyond applying. The full process is in the Turing hiring process guide.
- Put one project at the top of your CV: headcount you led, volume per day, the deadline you held, and the accuracy or quality metric you reported.
- Name your annotation experience in plain terms (tools, label types, review layers) if you have it; it is preferred, so it separates you from other managers.
- Prepare two short stories: a deadline you rescued by changing staffing, and a client escalation you handled. Both match what this role does daily.
- Confirm you can hold a 7am to 4pm Pacific day, weekends included, before you apply.
