What you'll do
Mercor wants native Dutch listeners to quality-check text-to-speech audiobooks in Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands. You listen to long stretches of synthetic narration and annotate every point where it fails a real listener, marking the exact span and choosing an error category in Mercor's tooling.
The error types named in the ad are the usual TTS failures: words skipped, added or mispronounced; numbers and abbreviations expanded wrongly; unnatural phrasing or intonation; audio artefacts. In Dutch that tends to mean long compound words split in the wrong place, stress landing on the wrong part of a compound, loanwords from English or French read with Dutch spelling rules, and "d.w.z." or "enz." read out letter by letter. You then summarise how natural and enjoyable the whole book was to listen to.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Dutch (Netherlands) and a genuine, regular audiobook habit
- Enough English to write clear reports; the ad says bilingual fluency is not needed
- Some experience with annotation, labelling, transcription, proofreading or linguistics
- Consistent focus over many hours of audio
- Roughly 20 hours a week, around four a day
Nice to have: AI training data, model evaluation or audio QA experience, or a background in editing, voice or audio production.
Mercor prefers applicants based in the Netherlands, but the listing is open to people anywhere. Flemish speakers are not excluded by the text, though the target variety is clearly Netherlands Dutch.
What it pays
$15–20 per hour, as Mercor publishes it. For Dutch-market remote work that is on the low side, and it is the same band as the Italian, German, French and Portuguese versions of this project. The US English version is the only one set higher, at $20–25.
Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise. The ad excludes H-1B and STEM OPT candidates.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No degree or years-of-experience minimum
- Dutch-language AI work is less common on these platforms than Spanish or French
- Self-scheduled, remote, and weekly paid
Less good:
- The rate will look thin against Dutch local wages
- Sustained listening is fatiguing, and quality depends on staying alert
- Contractor terms: no benefits, and the project can be cut short
- Project length, client and tooling are not described
