  • proofreading
  • linguistic annotation
  • attention to detail

What you'll do

You turn audio into text. The samples are professionally recorded, which removes the worst of transcription work (phone-quality noise, crosstalk), and they come in both Dutch and English. Your output is written text with correct grammar, punctuation and context, then proofread against the project's style guide.

Beyond the words themselves, the ad asks you to capture dialect, nuance and speaker intent, and to annotate transcripts for particular linguistic features when the project calls for it. That means decisions about how to render a regional pronunciation, a hesitation or a code-switch into English, and applying the same decision every time. When the content is ambiguous, you raise it with project stakeholders rather than guess.

Confidentiality and data security apply throughout.

Who fits

  • Native-level Dutch with an excellent command of grammar and usage
  • Professional audio transcription experience, ideally on Dutch material
  • English transcription experience is a plus, since some samples are in English
  • A keen ear for subtle linguistic and contextual cues
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working alone to a quality standard

AI training, NLP or annotation experience is useful but explicitly not required.

What it pays

$25–30/hour, micro1's published band. It is tight, so the offer you get should be close to the listing. That is below the $30–65 of micro1's Dutch Bilingual Expert role, which pays more for rating speech than this does for writing it down, but it is steadier than the $20–40 Dutch recording role and needs no studio. No hours or project length are stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Clean, professionally recorded source audio
  • A narrow, predictable pay band
  • No equipment beyond a good pair of headphones implied
  • Remote, with no country restriction on the listing

Less good:

  • Only ten openings
  • Professional transcription experience is expected, not optional
  • Pays less than the Dutch evaluation role on the same board
  • No hours, duration or start date published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
