Rex.Zone: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
You build training tasks out of real code. From real repositories you create tasks that test whether an AI model can fix bugs, add features, refactor and improve performance, and for each one you supply a reproducible environment and a reference solution. You also investigate difficult defects and performance bottlenecks across varied codebases, refactor legacy code, and write up your reasoning to raise the quality of the training data.
What sets this apart from Rex.Zone's other two general software listings is the entry bar: the ad is aimed at senior engineers and requires a visible public record on GitHub or GitLab, which is the proof they look at. It is remote contract work with calibration and review sessions.
Who fits
- A clear public record of open-source contributions (a GitHub or GitLab profile)
- 3+ years of software engineering
- Strong skills in Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++ or TypeScript
- Experience with Git, Docker and automated testing
- Fluent written English
Preferred, not required: project maintainer or core-contributor experience, experience with large or distributed codebases, and code-review experience.
What it pays
The listing states $50–100 an hour, the same band as the repository-validation listing despite the senior framing.
Rex.Zone's listing states USD $50–100 per hour, "adjusted by country of residence". The ad does not say how the adjustment works, so the top of the range may not apply everywhere, and where an offer lands in the range is not published. Payment terms are not published on the listing.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Open worldwide, with no country restriction stated
- Your public work counts: a strong profile is the main qualification
- Output is concrete (an environment and a reference solution per task), which makes quality easy to judge
Less good:
- Pay is adjusted by country of residence and the ad does not explain how
- Verified-users-only applications and an entry exam come before any paid work
- The ad states no hours or volume, so how much work you get is unknown
- Contractor agreement terms on ownership and licence are still marked as to be confirmed by Rex Legal
- Requires a public open-source history; strong engineers with only private work are unlikely to fit
- You must not submit export-controlled, military or defence-related technical data, or material you lack the right to share
About this listing
Posted on the Rex.Zone expert portal on 2 October 2026 and read from the signed-in portal on 29 October 2026. The requirements above are the ad's own; it lists no skills tags. Rex.Zone does not publish payment methods or payout timing, and the listing does not say how pay is adjusted by country. The portal marks applications as open to verified users only, and most roles sit behind an entry exam. See Rex.Zone.
