What you'll do

You invent a chemistry problem that is genuinely hard, then solve it properly in writing. One problem plus one full solution is one task. Terac describes the customers only as leading technology and research teams, so what the problems are used for is not confirmed in the ad. Think of it as expert content creation: the value is in originality and a solution a reviewer can verify.

Each task goes through an accuracy and quality review before approval.

Who fits

• A PhD in Chemistry (completed or in progress) or a completed Master's in Chemistry
• Real specialism you can turn into non-trivial problems
• Patience with a review step that can ask for fixes

What it pays

Terac's board lists $112 per task, with tasks of up to 4 hours. It is the second highest of four otherwise identical Terac chemistry listings at $70, $77, $112 and $160. If a task takes the full 4 hours, that is roughly $28 an hour; if it takes less, more. That is our arithmetic, not Terac's. The ad does not say why the rates differ.

Worth knowing

Good:

• One of the better-paying variants of this project
• Open to doctoral students, not only graduates
• Remote and written, so no calls once you are onboarded

Less good:

• Paid per approved task, so speed decides the hourly equivalent
• Screening interview and onboarding assessment before paid tasks
• Reviewed work can be returned
