What you'll do
You use your life sciences background and Python to produce and check research problems that help evaluate and improve AI systems. That means creating and solving technically rigorous scientific problems in your area, building reproducible Python analyses, models, simulations or data-processing workflows, and reviewing other solutions and code for correctness, clarity and completeness.
The ad names areas of interest: medicine and biomedical science, computational biology, neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics, genetics and genomics, ecology and evolution, and biostatistics. Its skill tags also include materials and astronomy, so the net is cast wide. Work is remote and flexible, including weekends, at roughly 15 hours a week.
Who fits
The ad lists these as preferred qualifications:
- A PhD, MD or master's degree with substantial research experience in a life sciences discipline
- A research record shown through publications, thesis work, computational projects or industry research
- Practical Python for scientific computing, analysis, modelling or simulation
- Familiarity with tools such as NumPy, pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, scikit-learn and Jupyter
The location is given as global and fully remote.
What it pays
micro1's listing states $60–120/hour. Compensation is output-based: experts are paid per task that meets the project specification, and the time a task takes varies with experience and workflow, so the effective hourly rate can differ from the headline band. Minimum submission requirements apply and the ad does not state them.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Global, fully remote, with hours you choose
- A broad list of eligible life sciences fields
- 100 openings
Less good:
- Per-task pay means a slow start earns less than the band suggests
- Unstated minimum submission requirements
- The process has screening questions, a roughly 30-minute AI interview and a hiring manager review
- The ad expects you to start your first task within 24–48 hours of onboarding
