AI training jobs in India: pay, platforms and requirements

Country guide · 1 week ago

Six listings on this site are open only in India, 28 require an Indian language, and most of the rest name no country restriction. What AI training jobs in India pay, which platforms post them, what they ask for, and the payment check to make before you apply.

What is open in India right now

Of the 699 roles on this site on 29 September 2026, three groups matter if you live in India:

  • 6 listings are open only in India, all from Mercor.
  • 28 listings require an Indian language, most with no country restriction.
  • 552 listings name no country restriction at all, so the listing itself does not exclude you. The India jobs page filters for you.

The India-only roles

Mercor's PDF annotation and transcription projects in Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Odia and Telugu pay $12.68 an hour. They ask for native command of the script, experience with documents (transcription, translation, proofreading, subtitling or similar), and character-level accuracy on material such as exam papers and handwritten forms.

The sixth is a full-stack software engineer role at $25–30 an hour for 40 hours a week. It wants three or more years shipping production software at a recognised organisation. Mercor's US version of the same role pays $50–65.

Indian-language work, and what it pays

The rate depends far more on the template than on the language:

Kind of roleExamplePay per hour
Transcription and recordingmicro1 Tamil transcription, Telugu audio recording$10–30
Market-tiered AI safetyMercor English and Gujarati, also Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu$16–22
Flat-rate voice evaluationInvisible Hindi dialect (Awadhi)$17
Language expertmicro1 Hindi Language Expert$20–36
Bilingual expertmicro1 Tamil, Bengali$30–65
Clinicalmicro1 Gujarati psychiatrist$100–200

By language: Hindi, Tamil and Telugu have 5 listings each, Gujarati 4, Bengali 3, and Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Urdu and Odia 2 each.

If you can choose, micro1's bilingual template pays several times Mercor's regional AI safety rate for general language work. The bilingual guide explains why Indian languages sit at the bottom of market-tiered pay.

What the requirements look like

  • Native or near-native fluency is the baseline on every language role, often with script accuracy spelled out.
  • Working English is usually implied, because guidelines and reports are in English.
  • Prior transcription or document experience is asked for on the transcription and PDF roles; micro1 lists it as a preferred qualification on its Tamil transcription role.
  • Credentials only at the top: the clinical roles are for psychiatrists and psychologists.

Before you apply

Confirm two things. First, that the platform engages contractors in India at all; who can actually do this work covers what each platform publishes. Second, that its payment method reaches you: Mercor's Bengali PDF listing states weekly payment through Stripe or Wise, and how you actually get paid lists the other platforms' methods.
