Architecture and Design Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)

What you'll do

You lead quality across AI training projects in architecture, interior design, urban design and the built environment. The review covers whether AI explanations and design suggestions are practical: spatial layouts, circulation, materials, building systems, accessibility, sustainability and code sensitivity. You also supervise the humans who produce the data, spot-checking their items, giving feedback over direct messages, answering Discord questions and running onboarding calls.

The ad flags risk review explicitly. Unsafe, inaccessible or code-insensitive recommendations get flagged, so a plausible but unbuildable idea is a defect.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's, master's or professional degree in architecture, interior design, urban design, landscape architecture, environmental or industrial design, or planning
  • Three or more years in architecture, design, interiors, urban design, design research, construction documentation, teaching or visualisation
  • Understanding of spatial organisation, circulation, scale, proportion, materiality, accessibility and building systems
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, BIM or Adobe tools is preferred
  • Experience leading remote reviewers or domain experts is strongly preferred

Prior AI training, design QA or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

The role is open to applicants in the United States only.

What it pays

SME's listing says up to $75 an hour with no floor. That is above its Anthropology QAL ($65) and below the Astronomer QAL ($110), so the ceiling follows the field. The listing does not state how or when you are paid; the company page covers SME's Deel payout cycle.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Design judgment is the product, not production time
  • Combines domain review with team leadership
  • Spatial and code reasoning is an area where AI models are visibly weak, so the work is substantive

Less good:

  • Selection runs through an AI interview, a domain-specific task and a recruiter interview
  • No immediate project is attached
  • US only, and up to $75 is a ceiling

About this listing

Posted on SME Careers (sme.careers), where SuperAnnotate hires subject matter experts, and read on 27 October 2026. The board gives no posting date. The duties, requirements and pay are SME's own text; the comparisons and commentary are ours. The interview, Deel contract, bootcamp and time tracking are covered on the company page rather than repeated here. The ad says selection involves an AI interview, a domain-specific task and an interview with a recruiter. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when relevant work opens, which also gives access to future projects in the expert network.
