Biomedical Engineering Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)
What you'll do
This is a supervisory role, not a first-line review job. You check the work of the trainers and QA reviewers who grade AI answers on biomedical engineering topics: biomechanics calculations, medical-device reasoning, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation and biosignals. Where an AI answer or a reviewer's call is wrong, you say so in writing and escalate patterns that keep recurring.
Around that sits a lot of people work. You brief trainers on Discord when guidelines change, answer their questions about units, assumptions and standards, chase contributors who have gone quiet, run onboarding calls and keep the style guides, trackers and calibration tasks up to date. A specific duty is flagging overconfident or unsafe recommendations where patient safety, diagnostics or regulatory claims are involved.
Who fits
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in biomedical engineering or a close relative (bioengineering, medical engineering, or electrical or mechanical engineering with a biomedical focus)
- 3+ years of professional work in biomedical engineering, medical devices, biomechanics, biomaterials, clinical engineering or regulatory documentation
- Strong written English for giving technical feedback
- Preferred: experience leading remote reviewers, and familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, CAD tools or ISO and FDA-style documentation
- A plus: earlier AI training or rubric-based model evaluation
The role is open to applicants in the United States only. The selection process listed on the ad is an AI interview, a domain-specific task and an interview with a recruiter.
What it pays
SME lists up to $105 an hour. The ad gives no floor and does not explain where in the range a lead lands. The ad does not state a payment method or schedule; SME's general terms are on the SuperAnnotate company page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- One of the two highest published ceilings in this group of SME listings
- Your domain judgment is the product: spotting hallucinated standards and regulatory overclaims
- Leadership experience on a remote technical team is a transferable line on a CV
Less good:
- The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when a relevant project opens.
- Plenty of non-technical coordination: messaging inactive contributors, maintaining trackers, running calls
- US residents only, and the ad gives no hours commitment
