Bash Team Lead

What you'll do

You review AI-written shell scripts the way a careful sysadmin would, then do the same for the people producing the training data. In scripts you look for correctness and safety: poor quoting, non-portable syntax, missing error handling, hallucinated flags and destructive operations. You flag credential exposure, injection risks and misleading production guidance.

The lead part is people work: spot-checking trainers' items, handling questions about pipelines, permissions and portability on Discord, keeping the Bash style guides and calibration tasks, and running onboarding.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's or master's in computer science, software engineering, IT or systems administration, or equivalent professional experience
  • Three or more years of Bash and shell scripting, Linux or Unix, automation, DevOps, sysadmin or CI/CD work
  • Solid fundamentals: quoting, conditionals, loops, functions, pipes, redirection, exit codes, signals, permissions, POSIX portability
  • Familiarity with grep, awk, sed, find, curl, jq, cron, SSH, Git and Docker is preferred
  • Experience leading remote teams is strongly preferred

AI training, annotation, LLM evaluation, code QA or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

The role is open to applicants in the United States only.

What it pays

SME's listing says up to $65 an hour with no floor. That is well below its Android ($110) and Angular ($90) review roles, which reflects the lead-role structure and the narrower Bash scope rather than a lower bar. The listing does not state how or when you are paid; the company page covers SME's Deel payout cycle.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Safety review of shell scripts is concrete, testable work
  • Combines code review and people leadership
  • Clear list of the defects to catch

Less good:

  • Selection includes an AI interview, a domain-specific task and a recruiter interview
  • No immediate project is attached
  • US only, and up to $65 is a ceiling
