C Team Lead
What you'll do
You sit above the C reviewers. Your own review work covers AI-generated C code, debugging answers, pointer and memory examples, algorithms and tests, checked for compile-time validity, runtime behavior, memory safety and portability. On top of that you field questions from contributors (allocation, undefined behavior, embedded constraints, how to read a rubric), update them on Discord when guidelines change, and DM people who have stopped working.
You also keep the project's paper trail in order: C style guides, trackers, FAQs, calibration tasks and honeypots, plus onboarding calls for new contributors. Part of the brief is flagging code that is unsafe, non-compilable or not production-ready.
Who fits
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software or computer engineering, or electrical engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years in C, systems programming, embedded or firmware work, performance engineering, code review or technical mentoring
- Deep knowledge of pointers, memory allocation, function pointers, macros, linking and undefined behavior
- Preferred: GCC or Clang, GDB, Valgrind, sanitizers and static analysis tools, plus experience supporting remote teams
The selection process listed on the ad is an AI interview, a domain-specific task and an interview with a recruiter. Only applicants in the United States are listed.
What it pays
SME lists up to $75 an hour, no floor stated, which is $10 above the C Engineer ceiling. The ad does not state a payment method or schedule; SME's general terms are on the SuperAnnotate company page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Higher ceiling than the engineer role
- The experience requirement is 3+ years, lower than the engineer role's 4+
- Mentoring and documentation experience is a useful addition to an engineering CV
Less good:
- The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when a relevant project opens.
- US residents only
- A good share of the job is coordination, not code
