JavaScript Team Lead

What you'll do

This is a supervising role rather than a pure reviewing one. As the JavaScript quality lead you spot-check items from trainers and QAs, review AI-generated JavaScript for correctness, async behaviour, security and test coverage, and send feedback by direct message. The title says Team Lead; the ad itself calls the position a Quality Assurance Lead (QAL).

The people side is a large part of the job: you update contributors on Discord when guidelines change, answer questions about browser versus Node.js behaviour, chase inactive contributors, run onboarding calls and maintain the documentation (style guides, FAQs, honeypots, calibration tasks). The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are first in line when a relevant project opens, and the role gives access to future projects through the expert network.

Who fits

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, IT or a related field; equivalent professional engineering experience may be considered
  • 3+ years of professional JavaScript work (frontend, Node.js backend, full-stack, code review, software QA or technical mentoring)
  • Solid core JavaScript: closures, scope, hoisting, prototypes, promises, async/await, the event loop, modules, DOM manipulation and modern ECMAScript
  • Strong written English for giving technical feedback
  • Ability to catch hallucinated APIs, non-executable code, missing edge cases, poor async handling and security risks

Nice to have

  • Node.js, npm/yarn/pnpm, React, Vue, Express, Jest, Mocha, Playwright, ESLint, Vite, Webpack or Babel
  • Experience leading remote teams of trainers, reviewers or QAs (strongly preferred)
  • Prior AI training, LLM evaluation or rubric-based code QA work

What it pays

The ad states up to $70 an hour, so $70 is the ceiling rather than a guaranteed rate. It is the highest of the software roles in this group of SME listings; the Kotlin Team Lead tops out at $65 and the Kotlin Engineer at $55. The ad does not say how the rate within the band is set. The listing does not publish payment terms; the process and payout details are on the company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A lead role with a $70 ceiling and a clear scope: quality, documentation and onboarding rather than raw volume
  • Selection includes a domain-specific task, which tests the work itself
  • US-only means a smaller applicant pool than the globally open engineer roles

Less good:

  • No project is open yet, so being hired may not mean work right away
  • Open only to US applicants
  • Leadership duties (activation chasing, onboarding calls, documentation) are unglamorous and may cut into hours spent on review itself
  • Hourly work on SME projects is time-tracked with monitoring software
