Kotlin Engineer

What you'll do

You judge Kotlin as an engineer would. The work is reviewing AI-generated Kotlin solutions, checking the reasoning behind each, spotting methodology and concept errors, fact-checking technical claims, then writing expert explanations and model solutions and ranking several AI answers.

The ad stresses idiomatic Kotlin: null safety, coroutines and functional idioms, and whether design and architecture trade-offs hold up for Android or backend services. It also asks for significant experience using large language models to help with coding, debugging and review. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are first in line when a relevant project opens, and the role gives access to future projects through the expert network.

Who fits

  • 2+ years of hands-on Kotlin
  • Strong grasp of null safety, coroutines and functional idioms
  • Professional experience with Kotlin for Android or backend
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Ability to critique idiomatic style, design decisions and architecture trade-offs
  • Significant experience using LLMs for coding, debugging and code review
  • Excellent English writing (C1 minimum)

Nice to have

  • Ktor, Android Jetpack and advanced coroutines in production (highly preferred)
  • Merged pull requests to Kotlin open source, or competitive programming
  • Prior AI data training or model evaluation work

What it pays

The ad states up to $55 an hour, a ceiling. The Kotlin Team Lead variant lists up to $65 but is open to US applicants only; this engineer role is open much more widely. The listing does not publish payment terms; the process and payout details are on the company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Open in 17 countries, across South and Southeast Asia, Germany, Brazil and the US
  • Only 2 years of Kotlin experience is asked for, a lower bar than the lead role
  • Familiarity with LLM coding tools is treated as an asset

Less good:

  • No immediate project, so expect a wait before work arrives
  • The $55 ceiling is below the lead variant at $65
  • Hourly work with time-tracking software
  • Payment terms are not published on the listing
