Kotlin Team Lead
What you'll do
The Team Lead role sits above the Kotlin Engineer listing and shifts the work from producing answers to protecting their quality. You spot-check Kotlin items from trainers and QAs, review AI output for coroutine misuse, unsafe null handling, non-idiomatic style and invented APIs, and give feedback by direct message.
You also communicate guideline changes on Discord, answer questions about syntax, coroutines, Android/JVM context and tests, track inactive contributors, write Kotlin style guides and honeypots, and run onboarding calls. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are first in line when a relevant project opens, and the role gives access to future projects through the expert network.
Who fits
- Bachelor's or Master's in computer science, software engineering or IT, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years in Kotlin, Android, JVM backend, code review, QA or technical mentoring
- Strong Kotlin knowledge: data and sealed classes, generics, extension functions, coroutines, flows, exception handling, Java interop
- Ability to spot incorrect coroutine usage, unsafe null handling and non-executable code
- Strong English for technical feedback
Nice to have
- Android, Jetpack Compose, Gradle, Ktor, Spring Boot, JUnit, MockK, Espresso, CI/CD
- Leading remote teams of trainers or QAs (strongly preferred)
- AI training, LLM evaluation or rubric-based code review
What it pays
The ad states up to $65 an hour, a ceiling. That is $10 over the Kotlin Engineer listing (up to $55) and just under the JavaScript Team Lead (up to $70), but unlike the engineer role it is open to US applicants only. The listing does not publish payment terms; the process and payout details are on the company page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Top Kotlin ceiling in this batch
- Selection includes a domain-specific task
- Only 3 years of experience stated
Less good:
- US only, while the engineer role is open to 17 countries
- No project open yet
- Lead duties pull time away from code review
- Monitored hourly work
