What you'll do

You read what an AI model writes in Malayalam and judge it the way a copy editor would: is the meaning right, does the register fit, does it read like something a person from Kerala would write or like a literal translation from English. You also write prompts and model answers of your own, covering general knowledge, customer support, education and conversational writing, and you rank several AI responses against each other. Feedback is written in English, so the job sits between the two languages. It is hourly, remote contract work.

Who fits

• Native or near-native Malayalam, with reading and writing required
• English at C1 or above, to follow guidelines and write feedback
• A bachelor's degree in linguistics, Malayalam or English literature, communications, journalism, translation or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education or similar language work
• Confidence with formal and informal registers and with dialect variation across Kerala, plus the difference between India and diaspora audiences

Prior AI data training, translation QA, editorial QA or rubric-based evaluation is described as strongly preferred, not required.

What it pays

The ad says up to $20 an hour. That is a ceiling, and the ad does not say what a typical rate is or how SME decides where in the range you land. The Malayalam Team Lead role pays up to $30. Payment terms and the hiring process are covered on the company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

• Malayalam is a smaller language for AI work, so a strong native editor stands out
• Writing your own model answers is more varied than pure checking
• A degree is not strictly needed if the professional experience is there

Less good:

• Up to $20 an hour is a modest ceiling for a role that asks for 3+ years of experience
• Eligible only from India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE
• The ad gives no hours, project length or start date
