Ruby Engineer

What you'll do

You read code that an AI model wrote in Ruby and Rails, judge whether it is correct and maintainable, and write down why. The ad points at MVC structure, domain modelling and control flow as the places models go wrong, and asks you to supply idiomatic reference solutions of your own where the model's answer falls short. You also rank several competing responses against each other, so the skill being paid for is comparing code and explaining the comparison clearly.

Who fits

  • 1 to 2+ years of professional Ruby in production, with real Rails experience (models, controllers, service-layer design)
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • C1 English or better, and clear written explanations: the work product is feedback
  • Significant experience with LLMs or AI coding assistants, plus a habit of verifying their output
  • Preferred: RSpec, Sinatra, merged open-source Ruby PRs, metaprogramming or competitive programming exposure

The listing is open in 17 countries, mostly in South and Southeast Asia plus Brazil, Germany and the United States.

What it pays

The ad lists up to $55 an hour and no minimum, so the lower end is unknown. That sits below SME Careers' Rust Engineer ($60) and Scala Engineer ($70) listings and just above its SQL Engineer ($50), so Ruby is priced in the middle of the engineering tier. Payment method and timing are not set out in the listing; the SuperAnnotate company page covers the contracting setup.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A Ruby-specific role is narrower than generic coding review, which suits people who work in Rails daily
  • Open to 17 countries
  • The experience bar (1 to 2+ years) is the lowest among the language engineer roles in this batch

Less good:

  • The ad states there is no immediate project for this role; qualified people are first in line when a relevant project opens, and the role also gives access to the wider expert network. Expect a wait rather than a start date.
  • Pay is an upper bound, not a guaranteed rate
  • Hourly work is tracked with monitoring software, as the company page explains

About this listing

Posted on SME Careers, the board where SuperAnnotate recruits subject matter experts, and read there on 27 October 2026. The board shows no posting date. Requirements and the pay ceiling are from the ad; the comparisons with sibling listings are ours. The hiring process (recorded AI interview, Deel contracting, paid bootcamp) is covered on the company page. See SuperAnnotate.
