What is assessment?
Written
The entry test a platform gives applicants, often timed and in your field. Some platforms also run an AI video interview.
An assessment is the test a platform gives applicants before admitting them, usually timed and focused on the field they applied for. It is the main filter in AI training hiring, alongside the CV and, on some platforms, an interview.
Common formats
- Skills tests: questions in your field, such as coding problems, maths, legal reasoning or medical cases.
- Writing tests: an ideal answer to a prompt, judged on accuracy and clarity.
- Task samples: a few real tasks such as rating or response ranking, scored against a key.
- AI interviews: a recorded video interview run by an AI interviewer, common on some platforms.
How to prepare
- Read the instructions twice; many failures are format failures.
- Use a quiet place and a stable connection for timed or recorded parts.
- Check whether tools or references are allowed before using any.
- Practise the format beforehand: our interview prep guides cover common assessments by platform and role.
Example
A data scientist applying for an evaluation role gets a 45-minute test: three statistics questions, then two model answers to rate and correct. They pass, and the onboarding for the first project starts the following week.
