What is hourly pay?
Pay for time logged on a project, usually tracked by the platform. Most expert roles on this board quote an hourly rate.
Hourly pay means being paid for the time you spend working on a project, usually tracked by the platform's own tool or a time sheet. It is the standard model for expert AI training work such as evaluation, writing ideal answers and red teaming.
What affects the rate
- Field: medicine, law, finance and senior software engineering pay the most.
- Credentials: a degree, licence or years of practice often set the band.
- Language: rare languages and specific dialects can command a premium.
- Location: some platforms adjust rates by country, others pay one rate worldwide.
Our stats page tracks the hourly ranges listed on this board by field, and the highest paying roles are ranked separately.
Things to check
- Whether onboarding and training time are paid.
- The minimum and maximum hours per week.
- How time is tracked, and whether idle time counts.
- When and how you are paid.
Example
A listing offers $65 to $90 an hour for a licensed accountant. The band depends on an assessment score, with up to 20 hours a week, paid weekly. Onboarding is paid at $40 an hour. Compare with task-based pay.
