What is EQ?

Written

EQ stands for empty queue.

No tasks available on your project right now. It is common between batches and does not mean you were removed.

EQ stands for empty queue: the state where your project has no tasks for you right now. It is one of the most common terms in AI training communities, and one of the most worrying for newcomers.

Why it happens

  • The client has paused the project, often to revise guidelines.
  • A batch has been completed and the next one is not ready yet.
  • Tasks are going to workers with higher quality scores or specific skills first.
  • The project is winding down.

What it does not mean

An empty queue on its own does not mean you were removed or did something wrong. Platforms usually tell you directly when you are removed from a project.

How experienced trainers deal with it

  • Stay qualified on more than one project, and on more than one platform.
  • Keep your profile and skills up to date so you are matched to new projects.
  • Check the queue at different times of day, since tasks are often released in batches.
  • Avoid relying on one project for income you cannot do without.

New roles appear on our jobs board daily, which helps when one queue runs dry.

Example

A trainer finds their queue empty on Monday. The project channel says the client is revising the rubric. Tasks return on Thursday with updated guidelines.
