What is project?
One client’s batch of work on a platform, with its own guidelines, pay rate and end date. Work comes and goes as projects open and close.
A project is one client's batch of work on an AI training platform, with its own guidelines, task type, pay rate, quality bar and timeline. When people say they "got a project", they mean they were admitted to one of these batches.
How projects work
Platforms run many projects at once for different AI labs and companies, often under code names. You may be on one or several at a time. Each usually has its own onboarding or qualification, and tasks appear in a queue while the project is active.
Why work comes and goes
Projects end when the client has enough data, pause while guidelines are revised, or shrink when the budget runs out. That is why the amount of work on a platform can swing from week to week, and why an empty queue is common. Experienced trainers stay qualified on several projects to smooth this out.
Example
A linguist is admitted to a four-week project rating Portuguese translations at a fixed hourly rate. When it ends, they are invited to a follow-up project for Brazilian Portuguese dialogue writing, with a short new assessment.
