Human Intelligence Collector (HUMINT)

What you'll do

This project wants the judgment of someone who has spent years getting accurate information out of people. You conduct or assess structured elicitation and interview sessions, then work out what the subject said, how reliable it was and why. You build rapport without pressure or coercion, read tone, pacing and nonverbal cues, and adjust the questioning as you go.

For each interaction you give a confidence assessment on consistency and possible evasiveness, annotate the emotional and motivational drivers behind answers, and score the session against a detailed rubric. Your reasoning has to be written so a reviewer can follow it. The work is remote contractor work at a commitment of at least about 15 hours a week.

What you need

The ad lists these as preferred:

  • 3–5+ years in professional interviewing, intelligence elicitation or investigative questioning (military HUMINT, law-enforcement interviewing or skilled negotiation)
  • Training in a recognised interviewing method such as the PEACE model or cognitive interviewing
  • Expertise reading tone, pacing, hesitation and gestures
  • Ability to justify analytical reads in writing, not just by instinct
  • Exceptional written English
  • At least about 15 hours a week available

Nice to have

  • Experience with diverse populations or through interpreters
  • Familiarity with data annotation, AI model evaluation or after-action report writing

What it pays

micro1 states $30–80/hour. The ad does not say whether pay is hourly or per task, or what sets your place in the band. micro1 also has an earlier "Human Intelligence Collector" listing on this site at a different band ($25–65/hour); this one is a separate post with its own requirements and a higher ceiling.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No prior AI experience is required; interviewing expertise is the bar
  • Remote, with 4 openings and a "High demand" badge
  • The rubric-scoring skill transfers to other evaluation projects

Less good:

  • Location is "Remote, US-based preferred"; we have left countries open since it is a preference, not a requirement
  • The 15-hour minimum is a real commitment
  • Scoring sessions consistently over many cases is detailed, repetitive work
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, and you handle your own tax
