Rust Architect / Backend Developer
What you'll do
You work on an AI-training project built around production Rust. The tasks centre on backend service behaviour: APIs, persistence, asynchronous and concurrent code, performance and failure handling. You solve and validate those problems, and you judge whether a backend is correct, reliable and maintainable enough for production.
Much of the work is setting things up so a result can be reproduced. The ad lists turning functional requirements, performance targets and failure-handling expectations into implementation and testing workflows, and preparing crate workspaces, configuration files, test fixtures, dependency services, databases and containerised environments. It is contractor work, fully remote, at roughly 15 hours a week.
What you need
- Strong Rust, plus backend service design, APIs, data systems and concurrency
- Experience with production software architecture
- Experience framing and completing technical analyses of backend correctness, performance, scalability or reliability
- Practical Rust in substantial professional, research or open-source software
- Clear ownership of Rust architecture (the ad's own phrase)
- DevOps is listed as a required skill on the card
What it pays
micro1's listing states $50–$70/hour. The compensation section adds that pay is output-based: experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications, and the time a task takes varies with experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply, and the ad says experts must submit a minimum number of tasks per week without naming the number. Treat the hourly figure as a benchmark rather than a guaranteed hourly wage. The ad does not state a payment method or payout schedule.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A published band of $50–$70/hour, well above general annotation work
- Flexible schedule: you choose hours and days, weekends included, as long as you stay active
- 10 openings, and micro1 says it typically fills roles within 48 hours
- Global, fully remote, with no country restriction named
Less good:
- Per-task pay means a slow start, or tasks that take longer than planned, lowers your effective hourly rate
- A weekly minimum number of tasks applies, and the ad does not say what it is
- The process has a screening questionnaire, a roughly 30-minute AI interview reviewed by recruiters, then a hiring manager review
- If selected, you are expected to begin tasks within 24–48 hours of finishing onboarding, which suits people with free time right now
