Humanitarian Aid Representative

What you'll do

You bring field knowledge of humanitarian action and civilian protection to a micro1 project. You design, review and refine scenarios involving civilian harm, protected persons and the boundaries of legitimate activity, with answers grounded in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and humanitarian best practice.

You then grade AI responses on accuracy, depth of reasoning and sensitivity to civilian harm, and flag both excessive caution and insufficient restraint. You keep precise records of difficult or ambiguous cases and help clarify humanitarian concepts for the project team. The work is remote and contractor-based; the ad does not state weekly hours.

What you need

The ad lists these as preferred:

  • A background in humanitarian operations, protection or policy with groups such as the ICRC and Red Cross, UN agencies or major NGOs
  • Strong grounding in IHL and civilian-protection principles
  • Ability to apply proportionality reasoning in conflict or protection scenarios
  • Strong written and verbal English
  • Teaching, training or field leadership related to humanitarian action or IHL dissemination

Nice to have

  • Experience documenting edge cases or challenging humanitarian situations
  • Conflict-zone fieldwork, protection-cluster participation or IHL-dissemination experience, which the ad says is highly valued

What it pays

micro1 states $30–70/hour. The ad does not say whether pay is hourly or per task. Compared with micro1's Military Legal Advisor post ($70–120/hour), published at the same time, this one pays noticeably less.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No prior AI experience is required; field expertise is the bar
  • Remote, no country restriction stated, 3 openings and a "High demand" badge
  • Puts humanitarian experience to use outside the NGO sector

Less good:

  • The band tops out at $70, below the legal sibling post
  • Hours, task volume and project length are not stated
  • Material deals with civilian harm and can be heavy reading
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, and you handle your own tax
