What you'll do
You bring facility inpatient coding skills to an AI training project. The core is reviewing inpatient medical records for correct ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding under current guidelines, working out the principal and secondary diagnoses for the whole admission, and judging how MCCs, CCs and procedures affect DRG assignment. You also review clinical documentation for completeness and flag where a provider query is warranted.
The AI layer sits on top: you evaluate AI-generated clinical notes, summaries and code suggestions against real documentation and inpatient coding standards, resolve diagnosis and procedure discrepancies, and enter and validate AI-generated patient information in inpatient record and encoder systems. The work is remote contract work.
Who fits
The ad lists these as preferred qualifications:
- An active coding certification such as CIC, CCS, RHIA or RHIT, or another AHIMA or AAPC credential
- Inpatient ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS experience, including DRG, MCC/CC and POA concepts
- Access to current official ICD-10 code sets and guidelines, and familiarity with AHA Coding Clinic
- A current role in inpatient coding, clinical documentation improvement or a close equivalent
- At least 10 hours a week of availability
The location line reads "United States, Remote", so the page lists the United States as the eligible country.
What it pays
micro1's listing states $50–70/hour. The ad does not publish a payment schedule or say what places a coder within the band; confirm the rate you would be offered in the interview process.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A published band well above many outpatient coding listings on micro1
- Your real inpatient coding judgment is the job
- 50 openings and a modest 10-hour minimum
Less good:
- Certification and current inpatient experience are expected
- Part of the work is data entry and validation in encoder systems
- Project length and payment terms are not published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits and your own taxes
