Intelligence Analyst

What you'll do

You work on a customer-facing micro1 project that evaluates how well AI models handle intelligence analysis. The core job is writing hard test cases: scenarios that probe source handling, analytic rigor and how a model expresses uncertainty. You then grade model answers on reasoning, use of sources, recognition of limits and practical usefulness.

A second strand is spotting over-refusal, where a model declines a legitimate analytic question. You document those cases and the edge cases where analysts themselves disagree, and you help project leads tighten the procedures for source evaluation and confidence levels. The work is remote and contractor-based; the ad does not state weekly hours.

What you need

The ad lists these as preferred rather than strict, but they describe who is being looked for:

  • Demonstrated all-source analytic experience, or deep expertise in one analytic discipline, ideally from a civilian intelligence community background
  • Strong grasp of source evaluation, confidence-level assessment and established analytic standards
  • Familiarity with structured analytic techniques and tradecraft standards
  • Clear, precise writing and speaking
  • Experience teaching, mentoring or leading analytic reviews

Nice to have

  • Earlier AI evaluation or model assessment work
  • Ability to articulate nuanced model limitations and over-refusal scenarios

What it pays

micro1 states $30–80/hour for this role. The ad does not say how the rate is set within that band, how hours are tracked, or whether pay is per task. A band this wide suggests the rate depends on your background, so ask before assuming the top end.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No prior AI experience is required; domain knowledge is the stated bar
  • Fully remote, with no country restriction stated
  • 3 openings and a "High demand" badge on micro1's board
  • Test-case authoring and rubric-style grading carry over to other evaluation work

Less good:

  • The $30–80 spread is wide and the ad does not explain it
  • Weekly hours, task volume and project length are not stated
  • The domain is narrow; a general analyst background without source-evaluation depth may not fit
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, and you handle your own tax
